Mykonos Access — Island Guide
Where you stay shapes your whole trip. Here is how the island's areas really compare — from our team on the ground.
Mykonos is small — nowhere is more than about 25 minutes from Town — but each corner of the island has a completely different personality. Pick the area that matches how you want your days to feel, and everything else falls into place.
Ask us off the record and the answer is simple: Ornos, Agios Ioannis, Agios Lazaros and the Scorpios side of Paraga. These are the island's original VIP neighbourhoods — prestigious long before Mykonos became fashionable — and they still deliver the combination everyone is really after: sea views, front-row sunsets, and the hottest spots on the island just minutes away. If you can't decide, start your villa search here.
Whitewashed lanes, boutiques, galleries, Little Venice and the windmills at your doorstep. Ideal if you want to walk to dinner and nightlife every evening. Expect energy and noise in peak season — choose a villa on the edges of Town for quiet with a view over the harbour.
Just north of Chora, rising above the new port. Sheltered beaches, front-row views of the yachts and cruise ships gliding in, and Town only a 5-minute drive away. A smart base if you want to be close to everything without sleeping in the middle of it — and ideal when your plans involve boat days.
Five minutes south of Town, with a calm, family-friendly beach, seaside restaurants and easy access to everything. The most balanced base on the island: close to the action, but relaxed when you come home. Many of our most-requested villas sit on the hills above Ornos bay.
The glamour coast. Psarou is home to the island's most famous beach club scene; Platis Gialos next door offers a long sandy beach with water taxis to the southern beaches. Stay here to roll from your villa straight onto a sunbed.
The quiet hill just behind Psarou and Platis Gialos, and one of the island's most prestigious villa neighbourhoods. Sweeping sea views, total calm, and the famous beach clubs a 3-minute drive below you. The best of both worlds: beach-club days, serene evenings.
The west-facing side, looking across to Delos. Quieter beaches, dramatic evening light and some of the best sunset terraces on the island. Perfect for couples and anyone who plans dinners at home with a view.
The island's untamed north-west corner, near the Armenistis lighthouse. Choulakia's smooth-stone beach and Fanari's clifftop terraces face the open Aegean — the sunsets here are the most dramatic on Mykonos. Choose it for privacy, big views and evenings that feel a world away from the crowds, with Town still only 10 minutes by car.
The east of the island moves at a slower pace. Elia has one of Mykonos' longest sandy beaches; Kalafatis is loved for watersports. Villas here offer more privacy and space for your money — a 20-minute drive from Town means you'll want a car or driver.
The traditional village heart of Mykonos, surrounded by open countryside. Large estates, big pools, no neighbours. Choose it for group trips and events where privacy matters more than walking distance to a beach.
